Comics/Cartooning/Art Classes Taught by Christians
2008 marked the start of Ron Wheeler’s Cartoon Camp. Over 30 kids attended one of two cartoon camps (one for elementary age and one for junior and senior high school students) that Ron and his daughter, Audrey, taught in his home.
Ron covered the basics of drawing, starting with realistic drawing and transitioning into cartooning. Everyone learned how to sculpt cartoon heads with modeling clay and used that as a reference for drawing characters from different angles. Students also gained preliminary information on how to create a comic strip and had opportunity to practice that.
In the Summer of 2009 Ron and his daughter expanded to 4 cartoon camps. Ron also held a single Saturday cartoon day camp in the spring as an outreach through his church to the neighborhood.
In all his teaching Ron uses the latest in technology: drawing in Photoshop CS3 on a Wacom Cintiq tablet and projecting his work on the wall through a digital projector.

COMIX35 offers seminars for Christian communicators who want to put comics to work in their evangelism and discipleship materials.
Seminars are very "hands-on" for students, with opportunities to create comic strips and tracts during class which can go into print immediately.
Sessions cover Identifying Your Audience, Plotting & Scripting, Storyboarding & Visual Storytelling, Editing/Art Directing, and Cultural, Communication, and Evangelism Strategy Considerations. (This is not an introductory "how to draw" class, although usually some art instruction is provided during each seminar.)
Over 30 COMIX35 events have been held worldwide for more than 750 people from 49 countries.
